Since Britt Shaw took over as head wrestling coach of the Gulf Shores Dolphins there has been plenty of winning and with victories over W.S. Neal and LeFlore Dec. 8, his win total climbed to triple digits.
At the end of the home meet, Gulf Shores Athletic Director Kevin Tubbs presented Shaw with a plaque to commemorate Shaw’s 100th dual win as the Dolphins’ head coach before he was mobbed by his team.
Those wins also marked the 10th in a row to open this season for Gulf Shores. The squad went on to collect three more dual wins before sweeping the Ryan Blackwell Invitational tournament at the University of West Florida last weekend.
Last season, the Dolphin squad finished the season in the semifinals of the AHSAA state dual tournament as one of the top four teams in Class 5A/6A. Toward the end of the season, recent graduate Charlie Hollis racked up a 25-match win streak and was eventually recognized with an All-American honor.
It was the end of the 2020-2021 season that saw Drake Ewing claim the 195-pound state title individually.
