Legacy Leadership Institute in Mobile empowers senior citizens to volunteer, connect

Posted

The Legacy Leadership Institute (LLI), a collaborative program between the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) and the University of South Alabama (USA), is set to help seniors find their place in the community as volunteers.

The three-day event, scheduled for March 24-26, aims to connect retired professionals and baby boomers with local volunteer opportunities.

Held annually, the LLI offers retired individuals the tools and knowledge needed to make a meaningful impact through volunteering. The event will be hosted over two days at the AAA office at 110 Beauregard Street in Mobile, with one day at the USA Faculty Club, where USA faculty and staff will provide in-depth education on aging issues and volunteerism.

The event is free to attend, and participants will receive daily lunches, snacks, and class materials. Upon completion, attendees will be awarded a graduation certificate and a special participation gift. The program also provides training on how seniors can initiate their own volunteer projects. Graduates of previous classes have gone on to start initiatives such as a Senior Citizen group at a local church, an Alzheimer's support group and even a Senior Center dedicated to serving the local community.

The LLI is a unique opportunity for seniors to build connections and become leaders in community engagement. To learn more or to register, contact Barbara Estes at (251) 706-4676 or via email at bestes@sarpc.org.
