USDA seeks public comment on interstate shipment of fresh wasabi from Hawaii

Posted

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is seeking public comment on a proposal to allow fresh wasabi leaves and rhizomes to be shipped from Hawaii to the continental United States for consumption.

The proposal covers fresh wasabi (Eutrema japonicum (Miq.) Koidz.) and follows a pest risk analysis that supports interstate movement with appropriate safeguards in place.

The notice and accompanying pest risk analysis were made available for public inspection in the Federal Register on Oct. 15. The 60-day public comment period opened Oct. 16 and will close Dec. 15.

Members of the public can review the documents and submit comments through www.regulations.gov by entering APHIS-2025-0408 in the search field.
