Gulf Coast Media’s Local Legends: Spanish Ft.'s Abrams-Draine leads Broncos in pass breakups, intercepts Darnold's pass

Posted

Baldwin County has always been full of athletic talent, and a plethora of players from the area have gone on to have successful careers at the collegiate and/or professional level.

So in this weekly series, I’ll be highlighting how former local stars fared each week, breaking down their performances and how their respective careers are progressing.

If I’ve missed anybody that I should be including, don’t hesitate to contact parker@gulfcoastmedia.com and I’ll add them to the list.

In this week’s edition, we take a look at Spanish Fort alum Kris Abrams-Draine intercepting a pass in the fourth quarter of a win for the Broncos, Fairhope product Blayne Myrick recording a pick-six with Miami (OH) and more:

Kris Abrams-Draine

Denver Broncos | Cornerback | Third Season

High School: Spanish Fort Toros

Previous Game: 17-14 W (OT) vs. Seattle Seahawks

Personal Stats: 6 tackles, 3 pass breakups, 1 interception

With the nation watching Thursday night, Abrams-Draine produced likely his best performance of the season.

The former Toro finished fourth in tackles and led Denver in pass breakups against Seattle, but the highlight of Abrams-Draine’s night came when he intercepted Sam Darnold in the closing moments of the fourth quarter with a lunging effort.

Mississippi State Bulldogs | Running Back | Redshirt-Freshman

High School: Gulf Shores Dolphins

Previous Game(s): 31-0 L @ LSU Tigers

Personal Stats: 18 carries, 71 rushing yards, 2 catches, 15 receiving yards

With starting tailback Fluff Bothwell sidelined following a bye week, Wilson took over the bellcow duties in a rivalry matchup with the Bayou Bengals.

And the former Dolphin made the most of his opportunity, as Wilson posted career-highs in carries (18) and rushing yards (71) and served as one of the Bulldogs’ offensive bright spots in the loss.

With Bothwell’s status still up in the air, Wilson may take over the primary rushing duties in MSU’s backfield for the foreseeable future.

Cole McConathy II

Miami Hurricanes | Tight End | Redshirt-Sophomore

Previous Game(s): 43-35 W  (2OT) vs. Florida State Seminoles
