Baldwin County Genealogical Society hosts expert on military ancestors

The Baldwin County Genealogical Society will host Dr. James S. Corum for a presentation on tracing military ancestors on Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. in the meeting room of the Foley Public Library.

Dr. Corum is a distinguished historian, strategist, and recognized authority on military air power and counterinsurgency. He spent 28 years in the U.S. Army, including six years on active duty, concluding his service in Iraq in 2004. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army Reserve.

An award-winning author, Dr. Corum has published 15 books and more than 70 journal articles and book chapters. He played a key role as one of the primary authors of the U.S. Army’s FM 3-24 Counterinsurgency manual under General David Petraeus in 2006. His scholarship has had a lasting impact on military doctrine and the study of modern warfare.

Following his retirement from the military, Dr. Corum has continued to work as an independent historian and consultant, influencing contemporary military thought. He is also a private pilot and resides in Alabama.
