With Bayside Academy’s 66-48 region win over the Escambia County Blue Devils, the Admirals set a school record for most points scored in a single game with just the program’s second 60-point game.
Bayside Academy head coach Phil Lazenby also moved onto the verge of 200 career wins after last Friday’s victory served as No. 199.
The Admirals had only scored 60 points one previous time, Sept. 24, 2010, in a 60-40 win over Mobile Christian in Lazenby’s fourth year at the helm. According to the Alabama High School Football Historical Society, Bayside Academy now owns a 45-3 overall record when scoring at least 40 points.
Tait Moore collected five touchdowns and added a two-point conversion to go along with 204 total yards, Joey Jones connected on 35- and 38-yard field goals at the end of the first half and Wills Norton pulled down two interceptions.
The Admirals sit as the lone 3-3 team in Class 4A Region 1 ahead of Escambia County (2-4), Satsuma (1-7) and Wilcox Central (0-6) who have all been eliminated. Jackson, St. Michael and Orange Beach are all tied at 4-2 behind T.R. Miller (6-0).
Bayside Academy hosts Satsuma (1-7, 1-5) this Friday while St. Michael travels to T.R. Miller with the Admirals owning the tiebreaker over the Cardinals.
Foley 43, Davidson 41
The Foley Lions outlasted the winless-in-region Davidson Warriors to officially clinch a playoff spot with a 4-1 record in Class 7A Region 1. Isaac Gamez came up with a stop on a two-point conversion to seal the two-point victory for the host Lions.
The win also set Foley up a chance to win the regular-season region crown with a win over Daphne this Friday following wins over 4-1 Fairhope (39-38) and 4-2 MGM (43-42 in OT). The Trojans won their first three region games but have now dropped their last two.
Last Friday, Lion senior Harrison Knight caught 11 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns in the first half of the game then Monday, he was announced as a member of Team Alabama in the 36th annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Classic.
Kolton Nero collected a pair of rushing touchdowns, quarterback Reece Tynes finished with 289 passing yards on 17 completions with the three touchdowns – as well as ran for an 18-yard touchdown – and Matt Owen nailed a 30-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
Orange Beach 48, Wilcox Central 0
In another big game in Class 4A Region 1, the Makos registered their first shutout since Sept. 24, 2021, to remain atop the mix for a playoff spot.
Orange Beach has now won two in a row heading into its final region contest against Escambia County (4-4, 2-4) this Friday.
Mako senior and UAB commit Chris Pearson started the game off with a bang when he grabbed his seventh kickoff return for a touchdown of the season. John Michael Lee and Cash Turner registered rushing touchdowns before John Wallace Holladay threw a touchdown pass to Will Reddell for a 29-0 lead after one quarter of play.
The 48 points scored is third all-time in Orange Beach program history, behind only wins from last year over J.F. Shields (50-0 on Aug. 20) and J.U. Blackshear (49-22 on Oct. 15). The Makos are now 6-2 overall when scoring at least 40 points.
