Intermittent showers last Thursday didn’t wash out Independence Day celebrations planned throughout South Baldwin County. Instead, residents and visitors in Magnolia Springs lined Oak Street Thursday morning for the town’s annual Fourth of July Parade.
The celebration, which was a collaboration of the town of Magnolia Springs and the town’s Commmunity Association, Garden Club and Volunteer Fire Department, also included a free hot dog lunch that included inflatables for children.
But that’s not all. In Elberta, Veterans of Foreign Wars Kichler-Pippen Post 5658 held its own celebration. The day-long event included music provided by a disc jockey, water slides and concessions available for sale, with proceeds benefiting the Oklahoma tornado victims. The festivities concluded after the sun went down with a fireworks show that lasted approximately 30 minutes.
In Lillian, residents gathered at the Lillian Community Club for the 71st annual Fourth of July Picnic. Activities kicked off Thursday morning with a flag-raising ceremony led by American Legion Post No. 48 and included live entertainment, a raffle, tuition awards and fried chicken plates.
Summerdale’s Independence Day celebration rolled into Pioneer Park Thursday night with a stunt show by Summerdale native Bubba Blackwell. His antics were followed by fireworks provided by the town of Summerdale.
