Will Reddell’s commitment to the South Alabama Jaguars marked a fourth Division I commit from Orange Beach after just its third varsity season.
After his pledge on Friday, July 7, Reddell will rejoin forces with Mako quarterback Cash Turner who signed with South Alabama on Feb. 1. Chris Pearson was an early enrollee at Houston and John Wallace Holladay committed to the Troy Trojans.
Reddell, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound receiver, helped Orange Beach to its highest-scoring season (403 points) as well as a 5-2 finish in Class 4A Region 1 which was good enough to earn a second straight home playoff game.
The 2023 South Alabama squad has a handful of familiar faces from Baldwin County, including another classmate in Stacey Boykins from Daphne who also signed with the Jaguars on Feb. 1.
Diego Guajardo, also a Daphne alum and now a fifth-year senior, is entering his third season handling placekicking duties and Carlos Johnson Jr., a Spanish Fort alum, is heading into his junior season on the defensive line.
Additionally, a trio of Fairhope Pirates are reunited as Jaguars in sophomores Blayne Myrick, Eli Webb and Logan Lanicek. Webb, a linebacker, played at Belhaven last season and joins Myrick on the linebacking corps opposite Lanicek on the offensive line.
Yet another familiar face will be heading to Mobile next year after Foley’s Logan Joellenbeck announced his commitment to South Alabama on June 24 entering his senior season with the Lions.
The Jaguars are scheduled to open their regular season on the road against the Tulane Green Wave on Sept. 2 with a conference-opening date with the James Madison Dukes set for Sept. 30, also on the road.
