Football season has arrived so get all the season preview information on your favorite teams around Baldwin County at the third-annual Gulf Coast Media Day event on Thursday, July 25, at the Orange Beach Event Center.
Presented by Planet Fitness in Foley, Fairhope and Daphne, the event will feature head football coaches and players from around the county discussing the upcoming season and highlighting storylines to follow throughout the year.
The event is open to the public to attend but if you can’t make it, the interviews will be streamed live on Gulf Coast Media’s Facebook page starting at 10 a.m. for anyone to watch. The morning schedule is set so make your plans to visit or watch Gulf Coast Media Day throughout the day on Thursday, July 25.
Batting in the leadoff spot will be the hometown Orange Beach Makos who are ready for action with new head coach Wade Waldrop.
They’ll be followed by Baldwin County’s newest varsity team in the Bayshore Christian Eagles who enter Year 2 as a program under head coach Phil Lazenby. Aiden August and Cyrus Dorsey are the scheduled player-guests from Bayshore Christian.
Up next on the mainstage will be the Foley Lions, head coached by Deric Scott in his fifth year at the helm, before Snook Christian and head coach Keith Smith, who is gearing up for his eighth year as the Eagles’ head coach, round out the morning slate with team captains Kile Votaw and Ethan Parker.
Head coach Nathan McDaniel and the Elberta Warriors will kick things off at high noon entering the fifth year of play in Class 5A, all under McDaniel.
The 2023 Class 5A state champion Gulf Shores Dolphins will roll along next with Mark Hudspeth entering his fourth season as head coach at the beach. State-champion representatives Carter Byrd and Kolin Wilson are among the scheduled player-guests for the Dolphins.
Another new face in Cris Bell will follow with the Robertsdale Golden Bears who are stepping up to Class 7A this season. He is set to be joined by senior classmates Spencer DeAngelo and Peyton Dallas in representing Robertsdale.
They’ll square off with the Fairhope Pirates, who are next on the schedule, in Region 1 for Tim Carter’s 10th season at the helm. Harrison Cook and Jackson Robertson are set to help represent Fairhope at Gulf Coast Media Day.
Andrew Davis is familiar to some as a former assistant coach at Baldwin County and Spanish Fort High Schools. Now the Tigers’ head man, Davis is set to hit the spotlight at 2:30 p.m. and will represent the team alongside defensive end Elisha Jones III and linebacker Keller Coston.
Rounding things out will be the Daphne Trojans, who enter the ninth year under a fellow Trojan in head coach Kenny King. His squad will be looking for a seventh trip to the playoffs in that span.
Also featured at Gulf Coast Media Day will be the Bayside Academy Admirals who enter Year 2 of the Barrett Trotter Era. Senior linebackers Monroe Partin and Billy Neill were the scheduled guests to represent Bayside Academy.
The Spanish Fort Toros will also check in as they gear up for the third year under head coach Chase Smith, a former Spanish Fort assistant himself. Members of the Toros’ senior leadership council, including center Ryan Perry, running back Sawyer Wilson and linebacker Newton Gardner, were set to represent their squad and help preview the season’s expectations on The Hill.
