A big puzzle piece landed when Foley all-state lineman Logan Joellenbeck announced his verbal commitment to South Alabama on Saturday night as part of a weekend that saw seven pledges to the program.
The 6-foot-6, 330-pound rising senior chose the Jaguars over four other offers, including three to in-state schools: Troy, Jacksonville State and UAB. Joellenbeck announced his offer to Southern Miss on the same day as the South Alabama offer on June 6.
As the fourth commit, Joellenbeck joined the flurry of a weekend that brought the Jaguars’ total pledges from members of the Class of 2024 to nine.
The Lion offensive lineman will be set to head across the bay to join forces with a few Mobile prospects including St. Paul’s offensive lineman Asher Hale (6-foot-5, 300 pounds), Theodore defensive lineman Kevin Norwood (6-foot-3, 290 pounds) and MGM quarterback Jared Hollins (6-foot-3, 185 pounds).
From the Class of 2023, Daphne’s Stacey Boykins (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) and Orange Beach’s Cash Turner (6-foot, 180 pounds) signed National Letters of Intent on Feb. 1 to join South Alabama.
Foley is scheduled to open its regular season at home against Prattville on Aug. 25 with the Class 7A Region 1 opener set for Sept. 8 on the road against MGM.
