Police investigate weekend armed robbery at Circle K; seeking black male suspect

DAPHNE — A local convenience store was the target of an armed robbery early Saturday morning.

Daphne Police are seeking a black male suspect who is believed to have been armed with a handgun when he entered the Circle K, said Lt. Jud Beedy. “He produced a handgun and demanded the clerk empty the register,” he said.

Beedy said the clerk was not hurt in the incident and had notified police of the crime.

The amount of cash taken during the robbery is not yet being released, he said.

The incident took place at about 3:15 a.m., Beedy said. Circle K is located at Main Street and Van Buren Street.

Police say the suspect is believed to be 20-25 years old, approximately 5 feet 7 inches and weighs about 150 pounds. He may have been accompanied by a black female in a white Mitshubishi Montaro, police said.

Through ongoing investigation, police obtained additional photos of the alleged suspects, Beedy said.

Photos were also obtained from surveillance video at the Lake Forest Shell Station, he said. At that time, both the black male and female entered the store and were captured on video.

“Since these are pretty good quality, we’re hoping someone will be able to help us identify this man and woman,” Beedy said.

Daphne detectives James Mathews and Joe Taylor responded to the armed burglary call and are investigating the case, Beedy said.

Anyone recognizing the suspect can call the Daphne Police Department at 621-9100.

Beedy also said police have not made an arrest in the case of two purse snatchings last week at the Daphne Wal-Mart. An investigation is continuing, he said.
