Orange Beach's Robertson picks up third college basketball offer

Makos' first all-state boys’ basketball player gaining recruiting attention after busy summer

Orange Beach's first all-state boys' basketball player, Joey Robertson, recently picked up his third college basketball offer after a busy summer.

His first offer came July 2 from Division II University of Montevallo and he started this month with an offer from NAIA Texas A&M Texarkana Aug. 4. Earlier this week, Aug. 22, he was offered by Division II Tusculum University although that likely won't be his last.

Robertson, listed as a 6' 6", 190-pound guard/forward, played with the Hawks Elite AAU team this summer and has already kicked off his college tours. He's been on unofficial visits to schools like Columbia, Lehigh, Lipscomb and Cornell, as well as McNeese State and Furman, and has Lincoln Memorial on the schedule for Sept. 4.

Last high school season as a junior for Orange Beach, Robertson helped the Makos to a school-record 12 regular season wins and a second-place finish in Class 2A Area 1 although they fell in the first round of the playoffs.

Still, Robertson was credited for his efforts where he averaged more than 16 points and eight rebounds per game with a field goal percentage of 52% and a three-point percentage of 70%.

He was named to the all-area tournament team, the all-area first team for Class 2A Area 1 and was an all-state honorable mention to become the first boys' basketball player from Orange Beach to be named all-state.
