Plenty of athletes in Baldwin County line up on both sides of the ball, but one would be hard-pressed to find a player who made as wide-ranging of an impact as Snook Christian’s Colton Givens did last Friday.
During his team’s road game against Northside Methodist, Givens racked up 114 rushing yards on a dozen carries, threw for 271 yards and accounted for three total touchdowns while also tallying six total tackles and a fumble recovery on the defensive side.
Got all that?
As a result, Givens’ efforts earned him Gulf Coast Media’s latest Athlete of the Week honor after public voting concluded Tuesday evening, with sources saying that the sophomore barely even left the field in a 49-34 contest.
The Eagles may have only won one game thus far, but with Givens being just a sophomore, the future is bright in Foley. Keith Smith and Snook just unveiled their new on-campus stadium this fall, and if Givens is any indication, this program will only continue to grow as the years go by.
Givens and the Eagles (1-5, 0-5) next welcome Providence Christian at 7 p.m. on Friday for their home finale.
Our other nominees for the week include Gulf Shores quarterback Major Hudspeth, Fairhope swimmer Katelyn Grant and Bayside Academy wide receiver Walker Collins.
And be sure to check back here Monday at noon to cast your vote in GCM’s next Athlete of the Week ballot!
