Residents in two Baldwin County-area state House districts will have opportunities later this month to learn how to recognize and protect themselves from fraud, scams and financial exploitation.
Representatives Jennifer Fidler and Donna Givens are teaming up with members of the Alabama Securities Commission and representatives from other state and local agencies to host free fraud prevention seminars for residents of their respective districts.
Fidler's seminar for House District 94 is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, at Magnolia Springs Town Hall located at 12191 Magnolia Springs Hwy.
Givens' seminar for House District 64 will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at the Loxley Civic Center located at 4198 Municipal Park Dr..
Both seminars will provide practical information to help residents and their families protect themselves from fraud and scams. Organizers will discuss how to recognize common warning signs, how scammers operate and what steps to take if someone becomes the target of a scam.
Topics will include common scams targeting Alabamians, financial fraud, identity theft, scams targeting seniors, online and telephone scams and other forms of fraud.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to ask questions and learn where to turn for help if they suspect fraudulent activity.
As scams become increasingly sophisticated, Fidler and Givens are encouraging residents to attend and to bring family members, friends or anyone else who could benefit from learning more about fraud prevention.
Residents of House Districts 94 and 64, as well as anyone interested in fraud prevention, are encouraged to attend the seminar nearest them.
