Daphne reveals branding, plans for city's centennial celebrations in 2027

The Jubilee City is commemorating 100 years in 2027, and city officials are ready to celebrate.

City of Daphne unveiled its centennial branding during a special event held at Daphne City Hall on Wednesday, Oct. 7. The city revealed the logo they will be using to celebrate Daphne's 100th–anniversary, introducing its mascot, Clawdius the crab. They also announced a series of events to take place throughout next year to celebrate the Daphne's past, present and future.

"We're doing a lot of things but there was a foundation laid by all the people before me that made this happen to where we can celebrate how wonderful and amazing Daphne really is," said Daphne Mayor Robin LeJeune, whose family owned Market by the Bay for 18 years and was first elected mayor in 2020 after an eight year tenure on City Council. "It's a total honor to be here just to celebrate and lead this city moving forward."

The first event that will kick off the celebrations is the grand opening of the new and improved Bayfront Park, including the Bayfront Amphitheater, which is on track for April 2027. The project has an estimated cost $15 million, including a $7.2 million Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GoMESA) grant that was awarded to the city by the state, with the first scheduled event being the Eastern Shore Repertory Theatre's production of "The Little Mermaid," scheduled for May 6 through May 8, 2027.

"It worked out perfectly," LeJeune said about the amphitheater opening during the city's centennial year. "People have talked about an amphitheater for 30 years. To open it as part of the centennial celebration, I mean, God has blessed Daphne and continues to bless Daphne."

In the summer, the city will hold a Centennial Gala on July 10, 2027, at the Daphne Civic Center, taking place just two days after the 100th anniversary of Daphne's incorporation on July 8, 1927.

In the fall, the city will host a "Spirit of Daphne" Parade, which will be held on Sept. 25, 2027. LeJeune described it as a Disney-esque parade that will highlight several notable moments from Daphne's history.

"We have some Imagineers from Disney that are volunteering their time and their expertise to come and be part of this and help us design this parade, that are from Daphne, that felt they had an idea of celebrating 100 years of Daphne because they were born here, grew up here, their parents still live here," LeJeune said. "They reached out to us and said 'Hey, we want to volunteer. We have this idea for a parade,' so it's not the traditional Disney brand, but you're talking about Imagineers from Disney that want to volunteer their time to help us make this special."

The last event scheduled is a Centennial Concert at the new Bayfront Amphitheater in October 2027, with LeJeune saying the exact day and the artist will be announced at a later date.

Along with the events, LeJeune also said that local restaurants and businesses will be offering special centennial related items throughout the celebrations.
