Fairhope’s Harrison Cook helped kick off the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s North-South All-Star Week festivities with two shutout innings on the mound in the South’s 4-1 win on Monday in Montgomery.
Cook got the nod to start the game, yielded no hits, struck out one and left the game in a scoreless tie to earn a no-decision.
Alma-Bryant’s Connor English (2 innings, 1 hit, 2 strikeouts), Pike Lib’s Luke Barron (2 innings, 2 hits, 1 earned run, 1 strikeout) and Enterprise’s Brady Richardson (1 inning, 1 hit, 3 strikeouts) teamed up to finish the job on the mound and limit the North All-Stars’ opportunities.
The South bats provided one-run innings in the second and sixth as well as a two-run fourth frame with RBIs from Saraland’s Santae McWilliams, Opelika’s Brodie Jones and Wicksburg’s Logan Colon.
However, a lightning delay eventually canceled the second game and left the South’s all-time deficit at 24-18-4.
The North swept the boys’ and girls’ golf competition earlier in the day Monday with competitions in cross country, tennis, basketball, soccer, softball and volleyball still to be played.
