After the Snook Christian Eagles made the playoffs for the first time in four seasons last year, head coach Keith Smith said the football interest around the school has only increased.
Smith credited last year’s senior class for paving the way ahead of this year’s senior class which includes athletes that put in plenty of work in the offseason.
Snook Christian competed in a 7-on-7 tournament this summer and the team was supposed to have an off day the following day until Smith received a few text messages.
“They work very hard, as a matter of fact, I had three of the players — yesterday was supposed to be a day off — text me and say, ‘Hey coach, I want to go workout,’” Smith said at Gulf Coast Media Day on July 27.
The Eagles kicked off their regular season last Friday at home and fell to Cornerstone Christian by a 46-12 score with an away game against Rocky Bayou Christian set for this Friday.
Key Storylines
-The Eagles are searching for a second straight postseason berth just three seasons removed from not having enough players to field a team.
-Corbin Hall, part of the inaugural team in 2017, will look to add onto program records he already owns including career rushing yards (939 yards), receptions (92 catches), receiving yards (1,205 yards) and touchdowns (20 TDs).
Top Quote from Media Day“I think the kids have a great work ethic and I think that’s one of the good things about making the playoffs last year, I think that gave them a taste of what that’s like,” head coach Keith Smith said. “I think there’s a desire, and I’m not meaning to speak for these guys but I know they feel the same way. There’s an excitement to not only make the playoffs but do better than we did this past year.”
