Fairhope seniors Hollon Brock and Jackson Hatcher will remain teammates at the next level after they sealed their commitments to play baseball for the Lurleen B. Wallace Saints Sunday, March 5.
Hatcher (a 5’ 11”, 185-pound third/second baseman) announced his pledge Oct. 21, 2022, and Brock (a 6’ 1”, 200-pound catcher/first baseman) committed to LBW shortly after on Dec. 20, 2022, and the pair signed their National Letters of Intent over the weekend.
Both athletes were named to Baldwin County Public Schools’ all-county team as well as the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s all-state team where Hatcher was a second-team selection and Brock was an honorable mention.
According to unofficial stats from Joey Warner and the Mobile Baseball Connection entering play March 6, Brock held a .516 batting average with 16 hits (including three doubles and a home run), 11 RBIs, 6 runs scored and a stolen base.
At the Prep Baseball Report South Alabama Showdown, Hatcher was recorded on the mound with a fastball that topped out at 84 mph to go along with a curveball that sat around 68-71 mph and a changeup at 77-78 mph.
The Pirates have started the season 4-6 overall including an Opening Day win over Robertsdale. Last Friday, Fairhope ended a four-game skid after it split a doubleheader against the Bayshore Christian Eagles, the fourth-ranked Class 2A team in PBR’s latest rankings.
There, Hatcher and Brock played against another future teammate in Bayshore Christian shortstop Streed Crooms, who penned his commitment to the Saints as part of the school’s largest signing ceremony on Nov. 30, 2022.
Brock and Crooms got a taste of being teammates when they represented their half of the state at the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s North-South All-Star Games over the summer. Also last season, Hatcher and Brock helped the Pirates collect the Class 7A Area 2 championship with a 23-17 record for their first such title since 2018 in the final year with Stu Fuller at the helm.
The Lurleen B. Wallace Saints compete in the Alabama Community College Conference and have started their season at 10-10 overall with conference play set to begin Thursday at Chattahoochee Valley Community College. Robertsdale alumni Sage Givens and Aiden Macks are local representatives on the current roster.
