Local volleyball rivals will come together as one Baldwin County community tonight in support of a Foley Middle School coach who recently lost her battle with cancer.
Madeleine Petite, a Robertsdale alumna and former Elberta coach, will be recognized when the Daphne Trojans host the Elberta Warriors and Robertsdale Golden Bears for a tri-match Thursday evening. Match times are scheduled for 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
Daphne volleyball announced that instead of admission charges, they will ask for donations for a scholarship fund that will benefit Petite’s five-month-old son Harrison. The Trojans also noted that profits from the concession stand will also be donated.
When she was 24 weeks pregnant, Madeleine was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer and passed away on Aug. 26. Funeral services are set for Saturday, Aug. 31, at 10 a.m. at Christ the King Church in Daphne with a visitation set for 8:30 a.m. The service will also be live-streamed on the church’s Facebook page.
Madeleine is a member of Robertsdale basketball’s 1,000-point club and was also a three-year letterwinner on the volleyball court for head coach Metta Christensen, who currently serves as the assistant athletic director of the Foley Lions. Madeleine helped the Golden Bear basketball team to the Class 6A Sweet 16 as a junior and went on to play at Auburn-Montgomery.
