Old, new rivalries highlight Week 6 action around Baldwin County

Bayshore Christian, Fairhope also kicking off at home this weekend

As the midseason interlude has arrived, nearly half of Baldwin County’s football teams will be idle on bye weeks entering Week 6 of the regular season.

As Daphne and Spanish Fort get ready to square off for the 13th time in their histories, Robertsdale and Orange Beach will be meeting for the first time in a budding rivalry that will span four classifications. Bayshore Christian and Fairhope are also scheduled for home kickoffs as region play is put on hiatus.

Check out more information on this week’s games with historical information from the Alabama High School Football Historical Society, follow @GCMSportsAL on social media for updates from the sidelines and visit gulfcoastmedia.com/sports for full coverage.

Daphne Trojans at Spanish Fort Toros

The 13th iteration of this Eastern Shore rivalry will see Daphne looking to rebound from a region loss and Spanish Fort looking to keep the train rolling after getting back on track last week.

The Trojans will bring their 3-2 overall record and 1-2 mark within Class 7A Region 1 to The Hill where the Toros sit 4-1 overall and 3-1 in Class 6A Region 1. Spanish Fort has also won the previous three meetings with a 35-27 margin in last year’s contest to extend to a 10-2 lead in the all-time series.

Daphne is 2-1 so far in road games and scored more than 30 points in all three wins on the year. However, the Toros own a 2-0 record on their new home turf and boast an average point allowance of 16.2 points per game.

Robertsdale Golden Bears at Orange Beach Makos

Another non-region game for the Orange Beach Makos will feature yet another step up in classification but this week they’ll go all the way to the top. The Class 4A Makos are set to host the Robertsdale Golden Bears from Class 7A, reserved for the 32 largest schools in the state.

After they ended a 24-game losing streak with a pair of non-region wins, the Golden Bears dropped their first three games within 7A Region 1. Robertsdale’s 82 points through five games has already surpassed last year’s total of 67 points.

Contrarily, Orange Beach used wins in its first two 4A Region 1 games to get back to 3-2 overall where the Makos eclipsed 40 points in both contests. Orange Beach has also already outscored last year’s total with 144 points through five games compared to 115 points in 2023.
