FOLEY, Ala. — Although a formal announcement still has not been made, it seems the city of Foley continues making way for Blue Collar Country entertainment destination. An example of that preparation is the City Council’s annexing property into Foley city limits last week.
According to the annexation report provided by Foley Community Development Director Miriam Boutwell, the action brings approximately 234 acres that are situated east of Juniper Street and north of County Road 20 into Foley’s jurisdiction.
“This is the remaining part that’s in the county now,” Foley Council President Wayne Trawick said in the pre-meeting work session.
As previously reported, Blue Collar Country is anticipated to be located at the intersection of Foley Beach Expressway and County Road 20. It’s a project backed by the Blue Collar Comedy trio of Jeff Foxworthy, Bill Engvall and Larry the Cable Guy, as well as entertainer Tony Orlando. In a recent meeting with members of the neighboring Parish Lakes subdivision, city leaders said discussion of the endeavor got under way approximately 18 months ago and that it is expected to bring appromitely 1,400 jobs to South Badwin.
In addition, the city is also planning to construct a muli-use sports complex near both Parish Lakes and Blue Collar that would house at least 10 fields and an indoor facility.
