The other six playoff teams from Baldwin County found the ends of their seasons in the first round of the playoffs but it was not due to a lack of outstanding performances.
Foley's Perry Thompson, an Alabama commit, looks to have extended his school record for single-season receptions and Orange Beach's Chris Pearson, a UAB commit, scored in all three phases Friday night.
Dothan Wolves 42, Foley Lions 28
Last Friday, Kolton Nero scored on rushes of 41, 4 and 1 yards and Reece Tynes registered a 1-yard touchdown rush as well. The 1-yard rushes came after passing connections to Thompson near the corner of the end zone as part of a nine-catch night.
According to unofficial stats, Thompson hauled in 87 catches in 11 games this season, which extends his school record past the previous-best mark set by Julio Jones – the 12-year NFL veteran – in his junior year (75 receptions in 2006) for most receptions in a single season.
Foley finishes 7-4 overall, the most wins in eight years, and will have four all-star representatives in December. Harrison Knight will play in the Alabama-Mississippi Classic Dec. 10 before AJ Prim and Cameron Schultz, along with head coach Deric Scott, represent the Lions at the AHSAA North-South All-Star game Dec. 16.
