With Bayside Academy’s 41-7 win over Satsuma at home Friday night, Admiral head coach Phil Lazenby registered career victory No. 200 and the team locked in a fourth-place finish in Class 4A Region 1 to solidify a fourth consecutive playoff berth.

Lazenby took over as Bayside Academy’s second coach in 2007 after six years under D.D. Thompson. In Lazenby’s second year, the Admirals registered their first playoff berth and now with his 115th win at the school, Bayside Academy is going to its 13th postseason.

Currently in his 16th season as the Admirals’ head coach, Lazenby’s overall record sits at 200-106 with additional stops at Guntersville (38-18), Gadsden Southside (6-6) and Benjamin Russell (41-12). The record ranks 16th among active coaches and is tied for 68th all-time with Bobby Joe Johnson who collected a 200-111-3 overall record after 26 seasons at Cherokee County and four years at Saks from 1966-96.

Friday, Bayside Academy left little doubt with a 38-0 halftime lead over Satsuma behind rushing touchdowns from Brennan Yamane (54 yards), Damien Tate (3 yards) and Noah Cain (1 yard), in addition to a pair of 50-yard returns from Wills Norton.

Toward the end of the first quarter, Norton pulled down his third interception in the last two games on a tipped pass and returned it 55 yards to the end zone with 1:32 left in the first. After the Gators’ ensuing drive stalled, the punt unit took the field nine seconds into the second quarter. Norton fielded the punt on one bounce at midfield, found a lane and made one cut en route to the end zone.

Admiral kicker Joey Jones added a pair of field goals (45 and 35 yards) and Satsuma’s lone score came on a 70-yard fumble recovery return from KJ Austin, who had one of his cleats fall off during the play.

Bayside Academy is back at home next week for their regular-season finale against Alabama Christian before the playoffs begin Nov. 4.
