Spanish Fort's Jayla Harris earns Athlete of the Week honors after delivering a dominant two-way performance to fuel the Lady Toros' hot start, while St. Michael boys soccer claims Team of the Week following a statement tournament run that reignited the Cardinals' season.
JAYLA HARRIS, SPANISH FORT SOFTBALL
Spanish Fort's Jayla Harris is swinging one of the hottest bats in Baldwin County to open the 2026 season.
Harris went 8-for-19 at the plate last week, blasting two home runs, driving in five RBIs and adding two doubles to power the Lady Toros' offense. Her production in the middle of the Spanish Fort lineup wasn't limited to the batter's box either.
In the circle, Harris tossed a complete-game shutout in a 7-0 victory over Alma Bryant, controlling the tempo from start to finish and keeping the Lady Hurricanes off the scoreboard. Her impact has helped the Lady Toros start 7-2 this season as they continue to build early momentum. Spanish Fort softball will spend the majority of March on the road and competing in tournaments, so two-way play such as Harris' will be important.
ST. MICHAEL BOYS SOCCER
After a sluggish 1-4-3 start, St. Michael boys soccer flipped the script in emphatic fashion. The Cardinals caught fire at the West Ala Invitational, winning five games in two days and outscoring opponents 27-2 in a dominant tournament run to claim the title.
Jake Lazzari manned the offensive explosion with nine goals and five assists across the two-day stretch; the junior captain now leads the team with 18 goals scored or assisted. Going into the weekend, the Cardinals' junior striker Raphael Duchesne led the team in goals and still holds that spot with 12 after the win streak.
The Cardinals are looking to return to the Class 5A state bracket after debuting in the classification last year. St. Michael has never advanced past the second round of the state playoffs, but moments like this past weekend show the potential to change that.
