Momentum is building across Baldwin County as championship season arrives, and a pair of standout performances on the court and the diamond headline this edition of the Baldwin County Buzz.
This week's spotlights are on the two beach schools — one powerhouse softball program chasing history and a dominant tennis star from across the island carving out a legacy of her own.
TEREZA MOJS, GULF SHORES TENNIS
Gulf Shores tennis player Tereza Mojs delivered one of the most dominant postseason runs in the state, capturing the Class 6A singles title and standing as the only girls state champion from Baldwin County this spring.
Mojs powered through a loaded bracket in Mobile, winning all five rounds of her flight across the tournament. The junior’s path to the title included victories over athletes from Trinity Presbyterian, Northridge, McGill-Toolen, Mountain Brook and Homewood.
The championship marks Mojs’ second state title in three years after winning the 4A-5A crown as a freshman in 2024, further cementing her as one of the premier players in Alabama. Her performance also helped lift the Dolphins into a top 10 team finish at the state tournament.
Currently ranked No. 2 in Alabama by the Tennis Recruiting Network, Mojs is building a résumé that places her among the state’s elite as she heads into her senior season next year aiming for a third title.
ORANGE BEACH SOFTBALL
Few teams in the country are playing at the level Orange Beach reached last week. The Makos rolled through an unbeaten 8-0 stretch, overwhelming opponents by a combined score of 101-4 while piling up 44 extra-base hits. That surge included a dominant showing at the Hoover Classic, where Orange Beach hit 16 home runs across six games.
In the circle, the Makos were just as overpowering. Kenlie Williams and MK McMullan each tossed perfect games during the week. McMullan’s came in a 12-0 win over Sparkman, while Williams opened the week with a no-hitter against St. Michael before closing it with her second perfect game of the season in a 15-0 victory over Helena.
Now sitting at 37-1 overall, Orange Beach is looking to be named MaxPreps National Champions for a third consecutive season, earning top-five rankings across every major poll, including No. 1 in the NFCA Coaches Poll.
The Makos will host the Class 4A Area 1 tournament beginning May 1, where they’ll face the winner of St. Michael and Satsuma game as they begin their postseason run at home.
