The Baldwin County Buzz returns with another look at who's heating up across the county, as the postseason picture begins to take shape across all athletics.
With track sectionals approaching and playoff spots secured on the diamond, this week's spotlighted athlete and program from southern Baldwin are not slowing down anytime soon.
RASHAUD ROBERTSON, FOLEY TRACK & FIELD
Foley junior Rashaud Robertson is turning in one of the most consistent and explosive sprint seasons in the area. In the Lions' final meet of the regular season, Robertson swept the 100- and 200-meter races, tying his own school record in the 100 of 10.71 while setting a season-best mark as well.
His work in the 200 was even more eye-opening — Robertson set a new school record earlier last week at the Gulf Shores meet with a time of 21.47. The Lions' speedster has also shaved nearly a full second off his 200-meter time compared to his performance at the 2025 state meet, where he finished 19th overall.
In 2026, Robertson has either won or finished runner-up in every 100- and 200-meter race he's entered, establishing himself as one of the top sprinters in not just 7A, but the state. He's also posted Foley's top time in the 400 this season, adding another layer to his sprint versatility on the track.
With the AHSAA 7A Section 1 Sectionals set for April 24-25, Robertson will look to carry his late-season momentum into Saraland High School as he eyes a return trip to the state meet in Gulf Shores.
GULF SHORES BASEBALL
On the diamond, Gulf Shores has emerged as one of the hottest teams in Baldwin County heading into the playoffs. The Dolphins captured the Class 6A Area 2 title last week with a sweep of McGill, finishing 5-1 in area play and locking up a first-round home series in the state playoffs.
Gulf Shores also closed the regular season at 8-2 and currently holds the second-best record in the county, a notable turnaround after a 7-9 start. Since mid-March, the Dolphins have gone 15-2, fueled by a lineup that has found a rhythm at the plate. That surge was on full display last week in a sweep of McGill-Toolen, where Gulf Shores piled up 37 hits, including 12 extra-base hits.
Now ranked No. 10 in Class 6A in the latest Prep Baseball Alabama poll, Gulf Shores enters the playoffs as one of the more dangerous teams in the field with an opening-round series against Theodore at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex on deck.
