The second half of the school year is rolling by, and athletes are rising across Baldwin County as spring sports moves closer to the postseason.
This week’s Gulf Coast Media Baldwin County Buzz spotlights Foley High School, where a record-setting thrower made waves at track and field meets, while the boys soccer program dominated the pitch.
RASHAD JONES, FOLEY TRACK & FIELD
Foley’s Rashad Jones is putting together one of the most impressive field seasons in the state, highlighted by a dominant showing at the Gulf Shores St. Patrick’s Day meet where he placed in the top 10 across four events.
Jones currently ranks No. 1 in Alabama in the javelin with a state-best throw of 197-feet and one inch — a mark that stands seven feet farther than the next closest competitor in 2026. The Foley senior is closing in on a historic milestone, eyeing the first 200-foot throw in Alabama since 2024 and just the second in the past decade.
Already the owner of five school records in field events, Jones continues to expand his resume. He set personal bests in the shot put, discus, long jump and 110-meter hurdles over the past week between the Lyon Newell Throws Meet and the St. Patrick’s Day competition, showcasing rare versatility across multiple disciplines.
With seven meets left in the 2026 season, Jones will look to become a back-to-back 7A state champion in the Javelin on April 30 through May 2 at the state meet in Gulf Shores.
FOLEY BOYS SOCCER
On the pitch, Foley’s boys soccer team is emerging as the best in Baldwin County.
The Lions went a perfect 4-0 last week and currently sit at 11-3-3 overall, the top mark in the county on the boys side. Foley also made a statement by winning its division at the Southern Coast Cup at OWA this past weekend, the only Baldwin County team to do so.
The resume continues to build for the Lions, who are ranked No. 8 in the latest coaches poll and No. 19 in the state by MaxPreps. Foley also owns a win over ranked Gulf Shores and battled to a draw against ranked St. Michael earlier this season.
In area play, the Lions lead Class 7A Area 1 with a 3-1 record. With the postseason just a month away, Foley will look to win their first 7A state playoff game since 2018.
