Baldwin County's top athletes and teams continue to dominate the Gulf Coast sports scene with impressive feats and performances as Gulf Coast Media's Baldwin County Buzz brings another week of standouts making noise.

Fairhope junior Nylah Loukides is Athlete of the Week after powering the Lady Pirates to a historic postseason breakthrough, while Gulf Shores boys soccer claims Team of the Week amid a five-game surge that has flipped its season.

NYLAH LOUKIDES, FAIRHOPE GIRLS BASKETBALL

Nylah Loukides has been a double-double machine all season for the Fairhope Lady Pirates, and her latest performance helped send the Eastern Shore program somewhere it has never been before.

The junior forward delivered 16 points and nine rebounds in a Sweet Sixteen win over Baker, dominating the paint as the Lady Pirates advanced to the Elite Eight for the first time in program history with a 28-4 record. Loukides is averaging 14 points and nine rebounds per game through three games this postseason.

With still one year of high school basketball left to play, Loukides has collegiate offers from schools such as Bishop State, Coastal Alabama, Shorter University and more.

Fairhope dropped a close one, 78-75 to Alma Bryant the Elite Eight Wednesday morning. The Lady Pirates ended the season with a program-best 28-5 record.

GULF SHORES BOYS SOCCER

After a 1-2-1 start to the season, Gulf Shores boys soccer has found its rhythm in a big way. The Dolphins have rattled off five straight wins on the pitch, including victories over McGill-Toolen, Elberta and Alma Bryant in the past week. During the win streak, Gulf Shores has outscored opponents 22-4.

Senior captain Duhel Nathanel and junior Anthony Will have combined for 14 goals this season — seven apiece through eight matches — providing a consistent scoring punch. Senior Webb Ronan has accounted for a team-high 12 goals, tallying three goals and nine assists to orchestrate the Dolphins’ offense. In goal, senior Taylor Barkley has logged 130 minutes this season and recorded 38 saves, a total that ranks ninth best in the state.

The Dolphins are aiming to reach the state tournament for a fifth consecutive season and return to the state final for the first time since capturing the 5A title in 2024.
