Who’s heating up: Daphne’s Jack Davidson and Fairhope Track & Field

Posted

After a brief hiatus, the Baldwin County Buzz returns — and with the postseason picture sharpening late in spring, standout athletes on the Eastern Shore have jumped into the spotlight.

This week, a Daphne baseball standout is recognized for a tremendous stretch at the plate, while Fairhope track and field brought home hardware to highlight a strong spring showing. As the athletic calendar winds toward the postseason, here’s a look at who’s heating up across Baldwin County.

JACK DAVIDSON, DAPHNE BASEBALL

Daphne’s success over the past few weeks has been fueled in large part by the bat and arm of Jack Davidson. The Trojans’ junior turned in one of the most complete individual stretches in the county last week going 8-for-10 at the plate.

Davidson also drove in seven runs while adding a pair of doubles to pace the Trojans’ offense. He also delivered on the mound, tossing 3.1 innings without allowing an earned run and striking out five.

The production is nothing new for Davidson, who is batting north of .400 this season and continues to set the tone at the top of Daphne’s lineup. The Trojans have now won seven of their last 11 games as the group continues to build momentum in the heart of area play.

FAIRHOPE GIRLS TRACK & FIELD

Heading over to the track, Fairhope’s girls program put together a dominant showing at the Baldwin County Championships.

The Pirates captured the team title with a performance that included 16 podium finishes, taking gold in eight of the 18 events, and 10 new personal bests set by the athletes. Fairhope ended with 259 total points in the meet, which outscored runner up Daphne by 146.

Highlighting those personal bests was junior Zoe Suntych, who broke the school record in the 100-meter hurdles by nearly two seconds with a time of 16.35.With sectionals approaching later this month, Fairhope will look to carry that momentum forward as athletes aim to qualify for the AHSAA State Championships and continue what has quickly become a standout spring campaign.
