Vote for Gulf Coast Media’s Athlete of the Week: Sept. 28-Oct. 4

A Robertsdale volleyball star and three Friday night phenoms make up this week’s nominees.

With the fall sports season hitting its back half, Gulf Coast Media’s next Athlete of the Week poll is currently live on our website.

Four athletes from Baldwin County will be included in the voting each week, which will open at noon on Mondays and close at 5 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Individuals can only vote for their chosen athlete once, with the winner being announced on GCM’s website and social media pages soon after polling concludes.

This week, we have a trio of Friday night phenoms and a star on the volleyball court making up the list of candidates.

To start out, Bayshore Christian’s Bricen Turner did it all during his team’s 40-20 win over Snook Christian on Thursday. The two-way sophomore accounted for a pair of rushing touchdowns, intercepted a pass and recorded plenty of tackles on his way to leading the Eagles to their second victory of the season.

Meanwhile, Daphne’s Kaden Brown produced a well-rounded defensive performance during the Trojans’ 41-9 win over Robertsdale, as he truly stuffed the stat sheet. The junior safety returned an interception for a touchdown, broke up two passes, recorded a sack, forced and recovered a fumble and racked up four total tackles.

Elsewhere, Robertsdale’s Olivia Foy hit a landmark achievement last week, as the sophomore eclipsed the 500-kill mark in her still-young volleyball career. Holding an offer from Bevill State C.C., the outside hitter/setter ranks top 30 in the state in kills (Top 10 in 6A) while also ranking among the top 20 in blocks at the 6A level.

And lastly, Bayside’s Davis Barnett is making his second appearance in the voting after he guided his team to an important 35-21 road win over Cottage Hill on Friday. The junior quarterback completed 76% of his passes for a career-high 362 passing yards and a quartet of touchdowns, and he even led his offense on four separate 70-plus-yard scoring drives.
