USSU women's soccer takes down D-I Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 5-2, for historic win

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The United States Sports University women's soccer team made history on Saturday, going on the road and defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 5-2.


How It Happened

Katherine Solis connected with Hailey Gatica in the 21st minute to open the scoring, giving USSU (1-0) an early 1-0 lead. Gatica's goal marked the first of the campaign and the first for her as an Eagle.

Nevaeh McIntosh and Dallas Rosby followed with a pair of goals in the 28th and 51st minutes, respectively, to give the Golden Lions (0-3) their first lead of the match, 2-1.

Ansley Warner responded with back-to-back goals in the 56th and 68th minutes and put the Eagles back in front, 3-2.

Avery Saulter added on to the USSU lead, finding the back of the net in the 76th minute for her first goal with USSU.

Freshman forward Kiara Pulgarin sealed the historic 5-2 victory with her first career goal in the 87th minute.


Match Notes

- The win marked the first over an NCAA Division I program in school history.

- Solis dished out a career-high three assists while leading the contest.

- Warner led the match in scoring with her third career brace.

- Gatica, Saulter and Pulgarin all marked their first goals as Eagles.

- USSU peppered the Golden Lion goal with 24 shots, 13 of which were on goal.

- Freshman goalkeeper Addison Martin made five saves in her debut.

- The match also marked the first time any USSU program has played a Division I team.
