United States Sports University is showing up in both national polls to open the season, with the baseball and softball programs each earning early recognition in the latest USCAA rankings.

On the softball side, the Lady Eagles are in the national rankings for the first time in program history. USSU debuted at No. 9 in the USCAA Softball Poll and No. 5 in the Week 1 power rankings.

The milestone comes after a week in which USSU split a pair of doubleheaders against NAIA competition. The Lady Eagles opened with a 7-6 win against Stillman and closed the stretch with a 5-2 win in the second game of a doubleheader at No. 25 Faulkner.

"We are so proud of the team and the work they have continuously put into this program," head coach Morgan Cinello said. "This is a great group of girls and we are honored as coaches to watch them thrive. There is still more work to be done, but we are proud of the continuous growth from top to bottom and look forward to more softball."

The Lady Eagles continued to build momentum later in the week, extending their winning streak to five games with a sweep of John Melvin on Wednesday by a combined score of 21-4.

The Eagles baseball team checked in at No. 9 in the Week 1 poll and No. 8 in the first set of power rankings, backed by a four-game winning streak that included consecutive doubleheader sweeps. USSU picked up two home wins over Dillard before going on the road and sweeping Lighthouse Christian. And that early success has come against solid competition as the Eagles currently boast the fourth-strongest schedule in the power rankings as well.

USSU baseball also turned in one of its most complete offensive performances of the season earlier in the week, rolling past Dallas Christian College 14-4. The Eagles racked up a season-high 17 hits, scored in six different innings and put the game away with a six-run fifth.

Eagles baseball boasts a 16-12 record while softball is 11-14. The Lady Eagles will play in Daphne throughout the next week while baseball hits the road until mid-April.
