Two second-half surges push Fairhope hoops to road sweep over Foley

FOLEY — Fairhope hoops went back to the Eastern Shore with a sweep over Foley on Tuesday night, pulling away in the second half of both games to secure wins in girls and boys action.

The Fairhope girls defeated Foley 58-34 in a game that was more competitive than the final score indicated. The game was physical and scrappy throughout, with Foley staying within reach before Fairhope created separation late with outstanding ball movement that tired the defense.

The post duo of junior Nylah Loukides and sophomore Liz Niehuss paced the Pirates, scoring 16 points apiece to combine for 32. Foley senior Amiyah Carvin led all scorers with 21 points, accounting for more than half of the Lions' offense. With the win, Fairhope improved to 19-3 on the season and moved within five victories of doubling last year's win total. Foley's girls fell to 10-6 on the season.

In the boys game, Fairhope pulled away down the stretch for a 74-52 victory after the teams played to a tight first half that remained a two-possession game at the break. The Pirates used pressure defense to force turnovers and capitalized on open looks in the second half.

Trey Garner led Fairhope with 20 points, Knox Lawson added 17 and Curtis Sanders led the Lions with 11. Fairhope connected on six 3-pointers and attempted 14 free throws, compared to two threes and six free throws for Foley.

Fairhope's boys improved to 12-5, while Foley dropped to 9-6. Both Fairhope teams return to action Jan. 9 at home against Daphne. Both Foley teams will hit the road to also take on Daphne, but on Jan. 13.
