SILVERHILL — The Silverhill Town Council voted to give town employees a 2 1/2 percent cost of living raise at its regular meeting Monday night.
The increase will cost an additional $6,250 for the town, officials said. Council members voted unanimously to approve the increase. Increases of 2 percent, 3 percent and 3 1/2 percent were also discussed.
The raise was one of the topics of discussion at a work session called for March 26 by the council.
Utility rates were also discussed at the work session. Action on that measure was tabled to the next council meeting scheduled for April 16.
Mayor Pro Tem Tim Wilson presided over the brief meeting Monday night. All council members were present.
In other business, the council voted to purchase a truck for the Utilities Department at a cost of $11,500.
At a previous meeting, it was discussed that the town could possibly purchase a new vehicle with funds from the sale of surplus items. The council voted to purchase the new vehicle after approving bids for the surplus items providing funds totalling $13,480.77.
In other business Monday, the council:
— Agreed to support the Robertsdale Band Boosters by co-sponsoring an ad with the town of Loxley and city of Robertsdale at a cost of $200.
— Voted to renew the notary for the town clerk and assistant clerk at a total cost of $250.
— Authorized Superintendent of Utilities Steve Williams to spend up to $300 for the purchase of trees and shrubs for Oscar Johnson Park.
— Town clerk Bonnie McNeil announced that the town must re-bid its debris removal contract.
