SUMMERDALE — Residents along Seventh Street in Summerdale will soon be able to get home a little quicker, thanks to a speed-limit increase of the road.
During its regular meeting Monday, the Summerdale Town Council voted to raise the limit from 25 to 35 miles per hour.
“There was a petition from some of the residents that live along that street,” Summerdale Police Chief Jimmy Davis said in an interview after the meeting.
Seventh Street intersects both East Broadway and East Shriver streets and is several blocks east of Alabama Highway 59.
“Several people who live on that street have talked to me,” Mayor David Wilson said in the June workshop.
During the workshop discussion, Davis pointed out one factor that would impact such a request.
“How many children live on that street?” he asked.
“Two or three,” Wilson replied.
Councilman Travis Townsend added that he thought that the children were older or teenagers.
Upon further review the request, the town found that the proximity to the homes located along Seventh to the street was far enough to allow for the increase in the speed limit.
