St. Michael Catholic High School is proud to announce that two of its outstanding seniors have been named Region 1 Class 4A winners in the prestigious Bryant-Jordan Student-Athlete Program, marking a significant milestone in the school's history.
Samantha Grace Kokoszka has been named the Region 1 Class 4A Scholar-Athlete winner, honoring her excellence in both academics and athletics. Nick Thomas Russo has been named the Region 1 Class 4A Achievement winner, recognizing his ability to overcome obstacles while excelling in athletic endeavors.
This is the third year in a row a St. Michael student has won the Achievement category, but this marks the first time in school history that Cardinals have swept both the Achievement and Scholar-Athlete Region 1 awards simultaneously.
"We are incredibly proud of Samantha and Nick," said Dr. Andrea Williamson, Principal of St. Michael Catholic High School. "These awards confirm what we already knew—that they are exemplary students and athletes who exhibit our Cardinal Values in the classroom, in athletic competitions, and in our community. To have winners in both categories is a testament to the character and drive of our student body."
Both students will now advance to the next stage of the competition. Their files will be reviewed by a selection committee to determine the overall winner in the Class 4A state classification.
The Bryant-Jordan Student-Athlete Program was created in 1986 by the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame and the Alabama High School Athletic Association to recognize exceptional student-athletes across the state.
