The Spanish Fort Public Library celebrated its 10th anniversary during Spanish Fort's City Council meeting on Monday.
Shanavia Spencer, library director for the Spanish Fort Public Library, thanked city officials, library staff members, library supporters and the local community for their support of the library. Spencer also said the library's new bookstore, the "Book-Nook" Store is now open to all patrons and customers.
"Spanish Fort Public Library is proud to be a welcoming place for our community and we look forward to continuing to be that in the years ahead," Spencer said.
Spencer also took the time to individually recognize the library's volunteers and staff members for their contributions to the library over the years, including volunteer Marc Nelson, who has been with the Spanish Fort Public Library for all 10 years, with Spencer calling him "the Godfather of the library."
During the city council meeting, Spanish Fort Mayor Mike McMillan also issued a proclamation declaring the week of Oct. 19-25 as Spanish Fort Public Library Week.
"There's no doubt we're blessed with good people," Mayor McMillan said. "Our folks in the library do an outstanding job and continue to move things forward. [...] Everybody that works there, all the volunteers and everybody that is involved, they do it the right way and that's what Spanish Fort has always been about, and will always be that way."
