Orange Beach’s Robertson collects 1,000th career point in win over Elberta

Makos’ first all-state basketball player, college signee adds to career milestones in senior season

Posted

Orange Beach senior Joey Robertson hit a career milestone with 1,000 points scored in the Makos’ win over Elberta Friday, Dec. 2.

Robertson finished with a double-double, 24 points and 13 rebounds, to help Orange Beach down Elberta 56-42 and etch his name in the record books.

After he became the Makos’ first all-state boys’ basketball player following last season, Robertson became the first from Orange Beach to sign with a college basketball team when he cemented his pledge to the Tusculum Pioneers Nov. 14.

While Robertson said the focus was on the upcoming season at the time, it was the coaches’ interest that helped the 6’ 6”, 190-pound guard/forward find his college basketball destination.

“Definitely the coaching. How they approached me was more like, ‘Hey, we want you to be part of this family,’ and not somewhere (where I'd be a number in a crowd). I'm Joey Robertson and I'm going to be a part of this,” Robertson said at the Nov. 14 signing ceremony.

Tusculum was the third school to offer the Orange Beach athlete this offseason after Robertson went on unofficial visits to other schools. After the Aug. 22 offer, Robertson announced his commitment Sept. 10.
