City of Foley commemorates additional Century Trees

Posted

The city of Foley is honoring two more exceptional trees within its vicinity, recognizing their significance to the community.

The Foley Revitalization and Beautification Advisory Board, in conjunction with city officials, awarded a Century Tree plaque to Margaret Krupinski and her family on Tuesday, May 7, in acknowledgment of a live oak situated on the Krupinski Farm on Charolais Road.

Additionally, Dustin and Felicia Parrish will be presented with a plaque to be displayed near their live oak tree on Waverly Lane.

Residents of Foley are encouraged to nominate trees for the Century Tree program by contacting the city, enabling the program's supporters to assess the suitability of the nominated tree. To qualify for recognition, a tree must meet specified size requirements, be in reasonably good condition, and have an anticipated lifespan of at least ten more years. Age determination factors include the diameter of the trunk, with oak trees required to have a minimum diameter of 30 inches at 4.5 feet above the ground, while other species should have a diameter of at least 35 inches at the same height.

Upon nomination, the advisory board will evaluate and measure each tree to ascertain if it meets all necessary criteria. Once approved, the city will document relevant information and provide one plaque per species to the respective private property owner, identifying and honoring the tree. Property owners possessing multiple Century Trees of the same species may purchase additional plaques from the city, with the plaques provided by the city required to be prominently displayed with the tree.

For further information, interested parties can contact the city at (251) 943-1545.
