MOBILE — Orange Beach and Elberta were the only Baldwin County teams represented at the AHSAA State Bowling Championships, with both girls programs making runs against some of the state’s top programs in the 1A-5A classification.
Elberta’s tournament came to an end on the opening day after losses to eventual repeat state champion Scottsboro and Indian Springs in an elimination game. Despite the early exit, the Warriors produced one of the top individual performances of the opening rounds. Lily King rolled a 192 single game, the third-highest score among all 1A-5A girls competitors and one of only three bowlers to eclipse the 190 mark.
Orange Beach opened its state run with a win over Etowah before delivering one of the tournament’s most dramatic moments in the second round. Trailing late, the Makos completed a comeback to defeat Satsuma by a single pin to advance.
Orange Beach also posted several of the top individual scores from the opening rounds. Katie King rolled a 178 single game, tied for the ninth-best overall, and finished with the seventh-highest two-match series total at 323. MK McMullan added a 335 series, the fifth-highest score in the field.
The Makos’ championship push stalled later on day one with a loss to Scottsboro in the finals-advancing match. Orange Beach returned to the lanes the following day with a chance to reach the title match but fell to East Limestone by a single pin, 1,218-1,217, ending hopes of a finals rematch against Scottsboro from the 2025 championship.
