Pop culture fanatics get ready because the Azalea City Con is bigger and better in its second year.

The Gulf Coast's pop culture convention is set to take over the Holiday Inn Downtown Historic District, July 20-21. The immersive, community-based pop culture event will bring fans of film, art, comics, superheroes, cosplay, video and board games together.

The growing event has many added events this year. A new addition for the single festival goers is "Meet & Geek," a special version of speed dating hosted by local radio personality Matt McCoy with 92ZEW. Other new additions include Cosplay Masquerade, live-action role-playing and Film Scrabble.

Local filmmakers are welcome to compete against one another in Film Scabble by entering a five-minute film using the guidelines provided on the event's website. Entries for the game will be featured on the new Azalea City Con YouTube Channel and the winner will be announced Sunday, July 21 at the convention.

The featured guests for the 2024 event are Dino and Connor Andrade, voice cartoonists from Los Angeles, California.

Dino is one of the three actors who provided the speaking voice of Dracula in "Last Voyage of the Demeter" and work on the upcoming "Killer Klowns from Outer Space: The Game." Dino also stars in "The Beachbuds" for Disney HotStar, co-starts in "Eva the Owlett" for Apple TV, Netflix's "My Dad the Bounty Hunter" and the original movie "Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness" as Barry the Duck.

Connor Andrade stars as Grizz on the Cartoon Network hit series "We Baby Bears" and has lead roles in upcoming shows on Nickelodeon, Disney and Apple TV. Andrade has also voiced iconic characters such as Toddler Groot for Marvel and Baby Shark in "Pink Fong" and "Baby Shark's Space Adventure."

The featured author for this year's event is Craig A. Price, Jr., USA Today bestselling author of Claymore of Calthoria Trilogy, Dragon's Call Trilogy, Dragonia Empire Series, Space Ghost Adventures Series and several other titles.

The convention offers something for everyone. Video game fans will enjoy retro video games. There will be board game and role-playing areas, artists, authors, prop and game builders.

The main focus for the organizers is to build an event that welcomes everyone from lifelong con-goers and casual fans to women who often struggle for acceptance in the community.

Daytime panels and activities will be family-friendly but after 8 p.m., there will be some adult-themes panels and activities suitable for ages 16 and up, including gaming sessions until midnight.

Tickets can be purchased at the door the day of the event or in advance. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.azaleacitycon.com.
