Former Baldwin County High School standouts the Mims brothers are both exploring new opportunities at the collegiate level after entering the NCAA transfer portal, continuing a football journey that began together in Bay Minette.

Tiaquelin "Ty" Mims played at Texas State this past season after previously playing three seasons at Southern Miss. His younger brother, Tiaquentin "TI" Mims, also entered the portal following his freshman season at South Alabama.

Ty Mims built a reputation as a reliable offensive weapon and return specialist at Southern Miss. As a sophomore in 2023, he started all 12 games and led the team with 39 receptions for 445 yards and two touchdowns. He recorded his best collegiate performance against Appalachian State that season, catching 10 passes for 141 yards — which is his only 100-yard receiving game at the FBS level.

During his sophomore season, Mims caught at least one pass in every game and added value on special teams, totaling 167 punt return yards and a touchdown. He notched a 98-yard kickoff return and posted a season-high 82 punt return yards against Old Dominion.

In 2024, Mims played a similar role for Southern Miss, appearing in all 12 games and starting 11. He finished with a team-high 33 receptions for 383 yards and a touchdown while adding rushing and return yardage to rank third on the team with 493 all-purpose yards. Mims ended his career as a Golden Eagle with 1,824 total yards and seven touchdowns.

Before his college career, Ty Mims was one of Baldwin County's most dynamic high school athletes. Under head coach Scott Rials, he starred as a dual-threat quarterback, passing for 1,428 yards and 16 touchdowns while rushing for 1,402 yards and 16 more scores as a senior in 2021. He was selected to the AHSAA North-South All-Star Game and earned ASWA Second Team All-State honors as a junior.

TI Mims followed his older brother's path to the Division I level, signing with South Alabama as a wide receiver. He did not record statistics during his true freshman season with the Jaguars before entering the transfer portal, earning a redshirt year. Other than also playing in the North-South All-Star Game, there are no official full season stats available for TI.

The 2026 transfer portal window officially opened on Jan. 2 and will close Jan. 16.
