ROBERTSDALE, Ala. - The Foley Lions used the deep ball and a suffocating defense to earn their first Class 6A Region 2 win against rival Robertsdale 47-7 Friday night.

The Lions relied on a well-mixed offense that featured both the run and the pass that proved to be too much for the Golden Bears from Robertsdale.
“Well we had a couple of breaks go our way early tonight and that always helps. I thought the kids came out and had a great week of practice, they were very focused and we executed on what we were trying to do,” Foley head coach Todd Watson said. “(Robertsdale) Coach Campbell has a good ball club and they are going to make some noise this season."
The story for the Lions Friday night was that of the offense, more specifically starting quarterback Tyler Cameron. Before coming out of the game mid-way through the third quarter Cameron completed a stretch that saw him complete eight out of nine pass attempts, totaling nearly 200 yards during the streak.
“He was a little amped up to start with and he missed on a few throws. After that I think he got into the game and into his rhythm,” Watson said. “He really threw the ball well and it helped us especially in the second quarter.”
Cameron was not alone Friday night; he had a lot of help from a few key playmakers that led to some big plays against the Bears.
Starting wide receiver Wendell Harris was the man of the night, at least when it came to big highlight real catches. While he only caught four passes from Cameron, Harris totaled 65 yards and brought in the game’s first touchdown from 22-yards out early in the first quarter.
Isaiah Lewis brought balance to the Lion offense rushing for 93 yards and scoring three touchdowns, He also caught a pass for 46 yards.
After scoring on their first two drives, Foley entered the second quarter with a 13-0 lead. Heading into the half the score looked much different. The Lions scored 21 points in the quarter and led 34-0.
With the win the Lions now have a 2-0 overall record and more importantly a 1-0 start within the region.
Now the Lions have a big matchup next Friday when they host arch-rival Daphne. The Key for Watson and the Lions is to treat this week just like any other.
“It’s not about who we play next week. It’s about us getting better each and every week, that’s been our focus all along,” Watson said. “We need to go out and practice hard and continue to get better each week. Next week is another big region game just like they all are.”
Kickoff between Daphne and Foley is scheduled for 7 p.m. next Friday night in Foley.
