Kickoff to final whistle: Highlights from each Baldwin County team’s prep football regular season

Posted

From win streaks to program firsts, Baldwin County football delivered a season full of milestones and memorable moments.

With the regular season now complete, here's a look back at the highlights for each of the county's prep teams.

Baldwin County High School: 2-8 (2-6 in Class 6A, Region 1)

The Tigers came up four points shy of taking down a 7A county opponent in the season opener, and things did not always go their way after that. Baldwin County started the season 0-6 before winning back-to-back region games against Murphy and Blount. The highlight of the season was a tight 24-20 victory over the Leopards for their second win.

Bayshore Christian School: 2-7 (1-5 in Class 2A, Region 1)

The Eagles are fairly new to the varsity scene, fielding their first team in 2024. The highlight of the year for Bayshore was a 28-8 win in game one against Fruitdale, making them 2-0 in season openers so far.

Bayside Academy: 9-1 (6-0 in Class 3A, Region 1)

Securing all nine of their wins by an average of 34 points this season, the Admirals didn't have many "highlight" wins — just a lot of statements made. If you had to single one out, Bayside's 23-14 road victory over T.R. Miller, which avenged a 43-0 loss on the Eastern Shore a year ago, takes the cake.

Daphne High School: 8-2 (5-2 in Class 7A, Region 1)

Entering the season with high expectations, the Trojans delivered with a 7-1 start. Christian Segar had a breakout junior campaign and is poised to be a Mr. Alabama Football candidate next season. The highlight came in a two-touchdown road win over 7A Region 1 champion Baker.

Elberta High School: 0-10 (0-6 in Class 5A, Region 1)

Continuing to rebuild under first-year head coach Joel Williams, the Warriors were unable to secure a win this season. However, promise was shown in several games, including a 14-0 loss in a defensive standoff against 7A Robertsdale.

Fairhope High School: 7-3 (5-2 in Class 7A, Region 1)

The Pirates started the season with a tough loss to Spanish Fort in a game where the offense struggled to get anything going. After that, Fairhope went on a six-game win streak highlighted by a 31-7 rout of 6A powerhouse Theodore on the road.

Foley High School: 4-6 (2-5 in Class 7A, Region 1)

Before diving into the heart of their schedule, the Lions started 2-1. Their second win in that stretch — a 27-7 victory over Robertsdale at Ivan Jones Stadium — was the most complete performance a young Foley core showed all season on both sides of the ball.

Gulf Shores High School: 5-5 (5-2 in Class 6A, Region 1)

A win over Baldwin County late in the year clinched a playoff spot for the Dolphins — but they were hitting their stride well before that. Gulf Shores faced one of the tougher schedules in the state, starting 0-3 before winning five region games. Their 24-19 victory over Spanish Fort felt like a playoff win in a must-win game for both programs.

Orange Beach High School: 4-6 (2-4 in Class 4A, Region 1)

In a fall semester full of highs for Mako athletics, the football team didn't get the ending it wanted. However, Orange Beach started the season 2-0, including a win over 5A playoff team Citronelle on the road.

Robertsdale High School: 4-6 (1-6 in Class 7A, Region 1)

The Golden Bears have gone 24 years without a winning season, and that streak continued this year. Still, a step was taken in the right direction under first-year head coach Justin Jones, as Robertsdale reached four wins for the first time since 2020. A last-minute touchdown to beat Orange Beach was big, but an overtime victory at Alma Bryant — the program's first 7A win in school history — highlighted the season.

Snook Christian Academy: 4-6 (AISA 8-man)

Breaking a 22-game losing streak, the Eagles excelled in 8-man football this season en route to a playoff berth. Making the postseason was a highlight, but their 56-0 win over Heritage Christian to end the losing streak headlined the program's historic year.

Spanish Fort High School: 4-6 (3-5 in Class 6A, Region 1)

Things didn't go as planned for the Toros after being one of the county's best teams in 2024. Missing the playoffs for the first time since 2007 will sting for a while, but the highlight of the season had to be their statement win over Fairhope in the opener.

St. Michael Catholic School: 10-0 (6-0 in Class 4A, Region 1)

An undefeated season for the first time in program history is a highlight of its own, and the Cardinals will look to add a championship to the reel. Their last-second win over UMS-Wright was thrilling, but their 49-39 road victory at Jackson elevated St. Michael to new heights.
