John A. Jackson will address the Fairhope Unitarian Fellowship on Sunday, July 22. His topic will be “Preparing for the County Bicentennial.” The public is invited to attend.

Jackson is the department head for the Baldwin County’s Department of Archives and History. He is developing the county’s bicentennial celebration, slated for 2009, and will describe the process and its progress.

His other projects for Baldwin County include: designation of a state and national scenic byway route along state highways 225 and 59; an oral history project that will focus on areas of interest such as education, industry, community history and ethnic diversity; plans to catalog all historic documents that are placed in the archives with the long-term goal of an online electronic catalog; promotion of the soon to be released archival newsletter; and speaking to local groups about the importance of maintaining the county’s heritage.

Jackson received a master’s degree in history from Jacksonville State University, a master’s degree in information science from the University of Alabama, and is currently writing his dissertation for the Ph.D. in history at Auburn University.

The Unitarian Fellowship meets at 11 a.m. Sundays at 1150 Fairhope Ave., across from the Fairhope Satellite Courthouse. For more information call the Fellowship at 929-3207 or visit www.fairhopeuu.org.
