GULF SHORES — Snook Christian Academy’s first individual outdoor track state champion was earned Friday by Kareem Harris with a 6’ 2” clearance in the high jump competition at the Alabama Independent School Association’s track and field state championships in Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.
Harris added a third-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 19’ 4” to compile all 16 points the Eagles scored in the team competition and record a tie for ninth place overall. The 16 points scored were more than 10 teams that registered top-six finishes in an event.
In running events on the track, Harris was joined by sophomore Aubri Tucker and freshman Josh Gabel in representing Snook Christian Academy with top-10 finishes at the state meet.
Gabel crossed the finish line with a time of 14:24.59 for 10th in the 3200-meter run finals, Harris registered a time of 11.88 seconds for ninth in his heat of the 100-meter dash prelims and Tucker finished her race in the 100-meter hurdle prelims in 20.89 seconds for 10th place.
Altogether, 12 Eagles — seven male and five female — represented their school and helped record 16 top-20 finishes where Harris took a spot on two podiums as well.
At last year’s state championship meet, Snook had three female athletes qualify in five events where Abby Smith recorded the highest finish with 12th in the 400-meter dash prelims. That marked one of two top-20 finishes to go along with three top-30 spots and another top-35 finish.
Harris’ all-state performance at the track title meet helped close his senior season with a third statewide honor after he was named to all-state teams on the football field and basketball court. He helped the Eagles get back to the football playoffs for the first time since 2018 then set the school’s single-game scoring record en route to an area championship and state ranking on the basketball court.
