Dolphin skipper Jacks named to coaching staff, six local athletes chosen to play for their half of the state

Baldwin County will have six players and a coach on the diamonds at the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s North-South All-Star baseball and softball games this summer after the teams were announced Monday.

Gulf Shores, Spanish Fort and Fairhope all had one player named to each all-star roster where Dolphin head baseball coach Chris Jacks was chosen for the all-star coaching staff following a third straight area crown. The 27th annual North-South All-Star baseball and softball games will be held July 17 and 19 in Montgomery as part of All-Star Week festivities.

Jacks will be joined in his dugout by pitcher/infielder Connor Gehr who helped the Dolphins register their first win over Orange Beach in the teams’ first meeting this season. Catcher/infielder Tia Titi, a North Carolina State commit, will represent the Dolphins in the softball contest after helping her team collect an area tournament championship.

Spanish Fort’s duo will both be fresh off a long postseason where catcher/outfielder Jack Holley, a Georgia State commit, and the baseball team went all the way to the state finals. The Toro softball team also made a deep playoff run that ended with a third-place finish thanks in part to efforts from catcher/infielder Ella Grace Nobles.

From Fairhope, outfielder Nolan Phillips and corner infielder Jesslyn Gordon were selected to the roster where Gordon and the Pirate softball team also went all the way to the state title game. Phillips and the baseball squad found the end of the road in the second round of the Class 7A playoffs after they finished the season on an 18-game winning streak and an area championship.

Holley, Gordon not only ones fresh off state title games

On the South All-Star roster, Holley is one of five baseball players and Gordon is one of four softball players who recently competed in state final games last week.

Caden Collier from Ariton and Drey Barrett from Holtville were crowned champions and Landon Beaver from Central-Phenix City and Alex Sherman from UMS-Wright joined Holley in finishing as state runners-up on the baseball diamond. On the softball squad, Mya Holt won Class 6A MVP honors as Wetumpka hoisted the Blue Map and Mary Suzan Aman from Houston Academy and Reese Cauley from Opp joined Gordon in claiming a Red Map trophy.

Although the South won one baseball contest in last year’s two-game set where the teams tied the second game, the North All-Stars still hold a 23-15-2 lead in the overall series entering this year’s matchup. The overall softball series also leans in favor of the North after last year’s sweep pushed its advantage to 29-23-3.

More on AHSAA All-Star Week

The two 18-member teams comprised of 2024 rising seniors were announced by Brandon Dean, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA).

The AHSADCA, which operates under the auspices of the AHSAA will also host all-star games in basketball, softball, volleyball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, cross country, tennis and golf during the All-Star Week, July 17-21. All-Star rosters for basketball, volleyball and cross country have already been announced.

The 64th annual North-South All-Star Football Game was played last December at Mobile where the South won 42-7.

The North-South All-Star baseball competition is scheduled for Monday, July 17, at Montgomery’s Riverwalk Stadium where the softball competition will be held at Lagoon Park Wednesday, July 19, and both will be live-streamed by the NFHS Network and AHSAA TV Network.
