Daphne’s West, Spanish Fort’s Hinote, McGee named AHSAA cross country All-Stars

South boys’ team looking for repeat victory to even all-time series against North

Posted

Daphne’s Sophie West as well as Spanish Fort’s Alexiana Hinote and Winston McGee were announced as cross country All-Stars for the Alabama High School Athletic Association’s All-Star Week this July.

The two 10-member teams comprised of 2024 rising seniors were announced by Brandon Dean, Director of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors & Coaches Association (AHSADCA) which operates under the auspices of the AHSAA. Other all-star games including baseball, softball, volleyball, boys’ and girls’ soccer, boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ and girls’ tennis and boys’ and girls’ golf will be held during All-Star Week, July 17-22.

All three represented their schools at the AHSAA cross country state championships this fall where Hinote registered eighth place in the Class 6A race in 19:24.83 and West took 21st in the Class 7A championship with a time of 19:38.55. In the boys’ 6A title race, McGhee recorded a time of 16:15.29 to take fourth place.

They’ll need to put up solid times once again to take down the North All-Stars which feature six girls’ runners who recorded sub-20 times at the state championships as well as two individual boys’ champions.

During last year’s All-Star Week, the North All-Stars won the girls’ race 19-38 to improve to 3-2 in the all-time series starting in 2017. The South All-Stars took the boys’ competition by a 22-33 margin for a similar 3-2 advantage in the all-time series.
