Gulf Shores' Haunted Hustle set for Oct. 19

Posted

The City of Gulf Shores is set to bring a frightfully fun Halloween event to its shores with the Haunted Hustle on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Gulf Place Public Beach.

Locals and visitors alike are encouraged to don their best costumes and join in the festivities, which include the Haunted Hustle 5K, a Fun Run, the Witches on Wheels bike parade and entertainment from a live DJ.

Proceeds from the event will support the Dolphin Foundation for Education and Arts, which will also offer pizza and refreshments, including beer and wine, on-site.

"We are excited to host the Haunted Hustle 5k, Fun Run, and Witches on Wheels," City of Gulf Shores Fitness Coordinator Holly Howell said in a news release. "This family-friendly event is great for all ages. We encourage everyone, no matter your fitness level, to come out and enjoy the night with us!"

The spooky evening kicks off with the Witches on Wheels Bike Parade at 6 p.m., inviting "witches" and "warlocks" to hop on their bicycles and parade along W. Beach Blvd and the Town Green, tossing beads and candy to spectators. The parade route spans approximately 2 miles. Registration for the bike parade is $30 until Oct. 1, $35 beginning Oct. 2 and $40 on race day. Participants will receive a goody bag and an event t-shirt, with preferred shirt sizes guaranteed for those who register by Oct. 1.

Next up is the Fun Run, starting at 6:30 p.m. This non-competitive, 1-mile out-and-back course is perfect for goblins of all ages and abilities. Registration fees match those of the bike parade, and participants will receive a finisher's medal, a goody bag and an event t-shirt.

The highlight of the night, the Haunted Hustle 5K, begins at 7:10 p.m. on a USATF-certified course (certification number AL18053JE) that starts and finishes in front of Gulf Place Town Green. Ghosts, ghouls and monsters are invited to test their endurance on this scenic course. Registration fees are also $30 until Oct. 1, increasing to $35 on Oct. 2 and $40 on race day. All 5K participants will receive a goody bag and an event t-shirt.

"General admission to the Haunted Hustle is free," said Molly Mahtani, Customer Service Coordinator. "For those who do not wish to participate in the Haunted Hustle 5K, Fun Run, or Witches on Wheels, we still encourage them to come out in their favorite Halloween costume and enjoy spending time with family and friends, listen to our live DJ, and enjoy the festivities we have lined up beginning at 6 p.m. The Witches on Wheels parade is a must-see for all!"
