Gulf Shores searching for attempted First Bank robber

Police are searching for the suspect of an attempted bank robbery in Gulf Shores that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

Officers with the Gulf Shores Police Department responded to The First bank, 205 E. 20th Ave., at 1:57 p.m. on Sept. 11. There, according to a news release from the department, bank employees said a man approached a teller and handed her a note demanding money. He did not show a weapon.

The teller questioned the note, the release says, and the would-be robber left, running south on foot.

Officers reported witness said they saw the suspect coming from the wooded area near East 16th Avenue and East 2nd Street.

Gulf Shores City Schools placed its three schools on lockdown as a precaution while officers checked the area.

The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office, Orange Beach Police Department, ALEA and Gulf State Park Rangers assisted in the search while K9s and drones were deployed. The suspect is described as a white male, 5'10 -6'2" tall, average build. He was wearing a black hoodie, black pants and black shoes with white soles. He wore a neck gaiter pulled up over his face. He may have tattoos on his arms.

The FBI and detectives from the Gulf Shores Police Department are investigating.
